Thing # 6 - Google Advanced Searching

Challenge six was very informative on the proper way to search the database that you want, without having to filter through a lot of sites that you did not want.

I searched the underground railroad by only searching .navy.mil sites and I found a training power point on the subject. I also searched NASCAR using only .gov sites and found the article that the 2008 Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson was hosted at the White House by President Obama.

While I don't do much searching for external customers, I do a lot for internal customers and this challenge will help. Not to mention that it is great for doing searches for writing papers.

Thing # 5 - Google Power User

For this challenge I picked google maps. The satellite photos on the maps are pretty neat. Also, I found the "Geniuses at Play, on the Job" article very informative.

Thing # 4 - RSS

I found this challenge to be extremely helpful. I ended up subscribing to two different RSS feeds. I will most likely subscribe to more as I go along, now that I know how.

Thing # 3 - Web 2.0 Awards

The two sites that I visited as part of this challenge were docstoc.com and myheritage.com.

Docstoc.com was an education site for looking up various educational topics such as History and Literature. I found this website to be rather difficult to navigate, but it did have a lot of information. You just had a wait a while for it to download.

Myheritage.com is a Genealogy site. It was easy to navigate and I even found a posting that my sister did last year about our family by searching for my mother. The down side to this site is that their are not a lot of people registered to it.

I cannot believe that I have not completed a challenge since #2. I had better get on the stick A.S.A.P. or else.

Challenge # 2 - Digital Projector & Laptop Presentation

Now this was a challenge that was more my speed. I can't tell you how many times that I have set one of these up. The important thing to remember is that when you use the library's laptop make sure that you have the password. There is nothing like setting up for a presentation turning on the laptop and wham - the laptop is locked and needs a password. Besides that, it is pretty simple. One last note - for screens made sure to use the function key.

ListenNJ Challenge

What can I say...this challenge was due in November and I am finally going to put my response on this blog (07 Jan 09).

This challenge took me about 20 minutes to complete, it was relatively easy. The instruction were easy to follow being that I'm not much of a "downloader" and I never used that program before (product of not be in the librarian field). ListenNJ is a great service that I was not sure about, but now I am. I will use it in the future and will be sure to tell people about it.
